North Star Fund Grants for African Americans Affected by Systemic Racism and Discrimination

Projects addressing housing, addiction, financial literacy, education, health services, parenting, life skills, mentoring, workforce development, legal services, and violence prevention are examples of the types of projects funded. The authorizing legislation and agency policies will determine whether a foreign individual or organization may apply for the grant. Grassroots organizing seeks not only the transformation of individual lives, but the undoing of systemic racism, including specific laws and institutional policies that create inequities. By enhancing connections to LYNX rail and constructing a new bicycle and pedestrian trail, the project supports quality of life by providing more transportation options. By constructing the new transit hub underground, the project supports additional development in a dense and transit-rich area of Charlotte, increasing environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness.

North Star Fund provides grants to organizations whose missions are to advance grassroots organizing—the process of building collective power so that communities impacted by injustice can make systemic change. Grantees can articulate the root causes of the injustices, pointing to systems and policies affecting their community. These organizations see community members impacted by this injustice as essential stakeholders, from whom they recruit leaders and seek stories, ideas, campaign strategy, and organizational direction. These organizations have a vision for systemic change that is connected to campaigns to undo or replace specific laws and systems that create inequity. These organizations can identify policymakers, decision-makers, or institutional targets in their campaigns.

At the conclusion of the grants period, grantees are expected, upon request, to submit an accounting of all disbursements and a narrative report comparing accomplishments with objectives. 2026 ACMS Foundation Grant (Pennsylvania)

Grants to New York nonprofit organizations in eligible locations to address systemic racism, discrimination against Black communities, and police accountability. Priority will be given to first-time applicants, as well as to Black-led organizations. Since its genesis, the Fund has provided grants to organizations working on police accountability and Black-led organizing groups addressing anti-Black racism across many institutions. These grantees range in focus from ending abusive policing in the streets and school campuses to addressing the historic disinvestment, lack of economic opportunities, and other discriminatory forces targeting Black communities.

The Fund seeks to address the philanthropic sector’s historic disinvestment in Black communities and Black-led efforts for social change. To do so, the Fund mobilizes resources from individuals and foundations to provide renewable, general operating support grants. Criteria For North Star Fund Grants

Foundation grants are available for definite programs and for projects covering a specified time. All proposals that show promise of making a significant contribution to the welfare of the community and its citizens are given careful consideration. In an effort to fulfill our mission, the Trustees will award grants with priority given to applications that will best enhance both the current and future quality of life in Northwest. Consideration will be given to proposals from organizations outside the primary service area if the proposal provides substantial benefits to the people or communities within the primary service area.
